Lettie? Oh Lettie!! What a relief!! And here I'd thought I'd get randomly matched up with some insufferable person. I don't know what this is for, but it seems to be a game of some kind?
[A panel before them lights up with the outline of hands upon them.]
Huh... um... well, if you'd like to be Player 1, I don't mind. But I'm good with taking the lead as well. What do you think?
Leaving us to figure it out on our own, I suppose. Typical for this place, it seems.
[ Eyeing the panel, Lettie lets out a drawn-out sigh, overly exaggerated; she's not actually annoyed, it's the most fun she's had in ages. Lettie brightens up, grinning at her companion. ]
You can take lead, I don't mind at all.
[ She waits for Fish to their hand on the console before placing hers down,
[Fish is way too excited about this. Though honestly, it's probably all just in the company they're with. They adore Lettie and it shows in how they're so animated with her. They put their hand on the console and a display shows up for them to answer.
This first question is easy enough. Fish touches an answer quickly and the display is soon shown to Lettie.]
[ Of all the people to end up in a booth with, Fish is by far the best. Lettie is easy-going and relaxed at even the worst of times, but with Fish there she's delighted, green eyes bright and lively.
When the question pops up, she nibbles on her lower lip for a second before grinning at Fish, fluttering her lashes at them. ]
Gonna give me a hint? [ But before they can respond, she presses 'Summer' and waits. ]
[Was this boy like some kind of archmage or something? It seemed as if his magic was just plain limitless. But Fish couldn't just stay stunned by it. They had no moment to spare with the vines coming at them.]
All right.
[And Fish followed Ed to wherever this tunnel he made led to, as they moved, they decided to check on him.]
Hey, are you holding up alright? I'm not so much of a fighter, but I can at least offer some healing and magical support.
[As much as Ed's powers might seem limitless to Fish, they definitely weren't. The tunnel only went so far before they reached the end, where Ed had to clap and transmute again to extend it.
Also, it was dark. Ed kept one hand on the wall of the tunnel with the other stretched out in front of him so he wouldn't face-plant into the end.
Unless Fish had darkvision, they couldn't see it, but Ed frowned at the mention of magic. He already had his first taste of a healing spell, and while it had worked, he didn't like it.
He also didn't like the discussion he had with Ziva about it, and the very mention of magic brought the memory up.]
I'm fine.
[He was actually feeling pretty fatigued, but he wasn't about to mention that. He just kept walking down the tunnel in silence, clapping his hands one more time to bring the tunnel back up to the surface. They had probably put enough distance between them and the killer plants by now.
OoC: Feel free to make a perception roll on Ed :D]
Ooh. For once I rolled pretty darn good and got a 16.
[As the light in the tunnel lessened to a point that neither of them could see, Fish drew fingertips against their lyre, whispered some words, and called forth two globes of light to illuminate the way for themselves.
They would have offered one to Ed, but at the way he spoke his words, there seemed to be something off about it.
Despite that, after a moment, Fish moved one of the balls of light to Ed carefully, to gently light the path before him.]
[Ed took a moment to pause to inspect the floating light. He wasn't sure what was stranger, that it was floating and moving of what looked like its own accord or that fact that neither of them appeared until Fish strummed the lyre. He reached out to see if he could touch it.]
Fish takes Henry's hand and gently runs long-nailed fingers over the man's wrist, where it seemed to be affected by the pollen. It certainly does seem like an allergic reaction. Against that skin, Fish's seems distinctly not human with a smooth, nearly rubbery texture. Somehow, as those fingers moved over the itching skin, the allergic reaction seemed to lessen slightly? Or at least that's what Fish thinks, seeing the skin look a little less red after touching it for a while.
He watches in interest, his gaze flickering from their face down to his wrists where nails graze over his veins. He takes a moment to silently observe them as he waits for any feedback, finding their differences to be such long leaps in evolution that it's too much for his brain to grasp at the moment. Yeah, weird robot fights in the middle of the city in broad daylight is normal but this is just too much. Go figure.
As they continue to look over his hand, he finds that the itching does lessen considerably.
"Are you doing that?"
He's not quite sure what to make of the reaction. It could be anything.
Fish looks back up at the man, blue eyes bright and clear—just adding to the whole spectacle that’s this merfolk’s flashy appearance.
“It looked like a normal allergic reaction of sorts but... I guess it reacts to touch? Some time ago when I first arrived on some landscape full of crystals, I felt something similar. And I felt better when I made contact with someone. Maybe this is the same.”
So this is a reoccurring theme, if he's interpreting their words and sort of extrapolating the details. The fact that it's such a simple remedy is reassuring, in any case, so he's perfectly content with letting the aquatic humanoid touch and soothe away the itch.
"Hm, well, makes things easier for me then. I'm afraid I must ask, though: Do you mind?"
Continuing to administer the treatment he means, which he sort of motions to with a nod of his head in the direction of their hands. He wouldn't want to impose terribly, to keep them sticking around if they had other places to be.
A little dingdongdingdong telling Matt he got it right chimes in the booth and the next question is shown to Fish. The merfolk glances over at the man for a moment, amused.
"Hard to tell that was my favorite color, huh?"
They glanced back at the screen, made their selection and the display was passed over to Matt.
"What, you don't like green?" Fish laughs. This game is pretty amusing. It was a pretty good way to break the ice between strangers. Matt's touch lands upon the option and the same dingdongdingdong sounds in the booth.
"I picked dolphins because I relate to them a lot. They're playful, they're charming, and they have sex for fun."
The display now opens for Fish's side and now, the selections seem to have them smirking. They strike a thoughtful pose, the end of their long red fingernails tapping against their lips. They select something, then the display moves to Matt's side once more.
"I've had some poor experiences, let's leave it at that." Maybe someone as bubbly (heh) and fun as Fish could change his mind, though. That remains to be seen.
"Oh thank God," Matt breathes out, relieved until everything they said registers fully, "Oh! You are... Very forward, aren't you?"
Seems the game is, too. His mouth hangs open for a few moments as he glances between the choices and his player 1, trying to figure out just by looking. No, that's not the sort of thing you can learn from how someone holds themselves, or where they look around the room.
"My theory," Matt begins cautiously, "Is that there's only one that everyone has."
[Fish hummed, continuing to lead Austria through the dance. They really aren't thinking of that much as they dance-- though they were genuinely more focused on the person they were with, curious to how they were taking everything around them.]
So... what's your name? I'm surprised we haven't made our introductions yet. [They chuckle.] You can call me "Fish".
[Thoughtful. It isn't very often he hears that, but then again, most of his peers have already known him for centuries, so there isn't much about his personality to comment on unless they're complaining about him. He doesn't spend much time mingling with his or anyone else's citizens, either -- being seen with, sure, but not really mingling enough to engage in thoughtful conversation, so it's no wonder. An occasional trip to a Beisl, with small talk, but there were too many risks involved in actual attachment.
Austria gets the feeling that may not be an issue here.] I suppose.
[On that same vein, he wonders what the risk is of telling them his actual identity. He's sure Fish isn't of his world, so unless it was an alternate version of that same world, they wouldn't even know "Austria" is a country... would they?
But someone else might know. Unless the cat gets out of the bag somehow, it's better if everyone he meets here calls him by his chosen human name. ... The name "Fish" does finally earn a suppressed smile.] Is that a nickname? You can call me Roderich.
[Fish couldn't help but laugh again, grinning widely afterwards at Roderich's reaction to their name. This is bound to be an interesting kind of dance. They did kind of notice how they didn't want to look past their face earlier, too. A little niggling question came up in the back of their mind that they had to give voice to.]
It's a nickname.
[A pause.]
Are you bothered by the fact that I am one, Roderich?
[A fleeting look of astonishment crosses Yasusada's face when the stranger makes their introduction. Fish? Their name is Fish? Well okay, so they're definitely not human, and he can see where some of the features might look a little like... but it's such a strange name for someone pretty. Not at all fitting.
Thankfully he remembers his manners a moment later and dips into another quick, shallow bow.]
Fish-san? If that's what you would like me to call you, I surely will.
[Although to be honest, he's not entirely sure what's wrong with his own name. None of the other swords have ever had a problem with it. Some of the older swords like Ishikirimaru even call him by his full name most of the time, but that's a bit excessive.
His mouth screws up thoughtfully for a moment before he answers.]
We call one of the other swords Kane-san instead of his full name. You could call me Yasu, if you want to?
[Fish chuckles, very amused by the way he reacted to their silly nickname. They know their name sometimes gets a kick out of other people. Honestly, the worse name is their actual name as a performer. Fish was mild compared to that.]
Well then, Yasu, thank you. I'm sorry... I wasn't sure if I could say your whole name properly. But if you'd prefer me to call you by name, I'd be glad to learn how to say it.
You keep talking about not stopping me... I honestly wonder if you'd really appreciate it.
[Fish pouts. Despite how physically sexy Xemnas is, his charm on Fish is kind of waning. It probably didn't help that Fish got very spoiled during the festival. So, that feeling of not really being desired does keep Fish from being a complete slut.]
But anyway, that's a discussion best saved for when we're away from all this!
[True though his words have been - will continue to be - even Xemnas can tell that they haven't entirely met with Fish's approval. He might not be able to guess at the whole of the reason why, perhaps, when they've still only met the twice, but he can grasp the basics of it all the same.]
I must apologize if my words have given cause to doubt. I am... not entirely accustomed to more overt displays of affection.
[Or any sort of emotional display, for that matter, not that he's going to come out and say so at the moment. Later, perhaps, when there isn't the threat posed by the vines to contend. But not now.]
Shall we depart for safer locales? Or would you prefer to remain and deal with the current threat?
[Fish takes the words into account and it does soften the doubt they have about Xemnas actually wanting them. But they're still on the fence about it. They'll see. But for now, there are other things they need to give attention to.]
I don't think I've got the right spells or weapons to tackle these. I'd rather retreat.
